Rashford Scores His First Goal For Barca

SEOUL: Marcus Rashford scored his first goal for Barcelona amid the club’s ongoing issues with him still not being able to officially register before the start of the La Liga season.

The 27-year-old striker joined the Spanish giants on a season-long loan from Manchester United last month.

Rashford’s first goal came in a 5-0 victory over Daegu FC on their pre-season tour of South Korea last night.

Lamine Yamal stole the show in the first half with some deceptive runs and created plenty of chances.

Rashford jokingly touched Yamal’s “magical” left foot when he came on as a substitute in the second half and it turned out to be lucky.

The England winger showed a calm finish when he fired a shot into the bottom corner of the goal from 12 yards in the 65th minute.

A fan also showed Rashford’s number 10 Manchester United jersey after the goal.

However, despite it being Rashford’s third pre-season friendly appearance for Barca, he is still not registered to play in the La Liga competition.

Barcelona are still struggling to comply with La Liga’s salary cap, making it difficult for them to sign new players.

The La Liga champions faced a similar situation last season when Dani Olmo had to wait before making his league debut after joining the club in the summer of 2024.

At that time, La Liga granted Barcelona a temporary license to register Olmo and Victor.

Apart from Rashford, Barca have also yet to register several new players this summer such as Joan Garcia, Roony Bardghji, Wojciech Szczesny (goalkeeper) and Gerard Martin (defender).

But with less than two weeks to go before the league opener against Mallorca, Rashford remains calm.

Before kick-off, Rashford said: “It’s a club matter. I trust they will sort it out. I’m just focused on training and getting ready for the start of the season.”

Rashford is now the first English player to score for Barcelona since Gary Lineker did so between 1986 and 1989.

Barcelona also have the option to buy Rashford permanently at the end of the season for a fee of £30 million.
